The Texas Spell Book Slaughterhouse!

I've been lucky enough to share a table of contents with Ruthann for a few anthologies lately and it was with great excitement I tore into her brand new novelette THE NEW GIRLS' PATIENT. This book is nasty, gnarly, mean, and above all, brutal! There's plenty of gore to go around and keep you reeling from all the inflicted trauma that transpires in this short, sharp shock of a story. Jamie is a rookie nurse just trying to make ends meet in the armpit town known as Crees Crossing. Her two friends at the care facility she works at are the only bright spots to be found in a gray and dour life. One day, Jamie's favorite elderly patient dies and leaves her a mysterious notebook. Shortly after that, the unthinkable happens when two violent thugs attack Jamie and her friends and whisk them away to a truly sinsiter location. What do they want? Will Jamie and her friends survive the night? It's dark and brutal fun finding out, that's for sure. Jagge's description of Crees Crossing and life in it is fantastic. You really get a sense of what it's like to live in such a depressing ghost of a town. Also, the violence and brutality is described perfectly and made me wince more than a few times. This one gets really nasty and dark about a third of the way through and never lets up for a second. At thirty pages, Jagge's THE NEW GIRLS' PATIENT is a must-read not just because of its convenient length, but also because the author has a confident, steady hand on where she wants to take you and just how to traumatize you with her relentless pacing and dark sensibilities. I for one am looking forward to Ruthann Jagge's next book with eagerness and maybe even a little apprehension!

Stomach-Churning Extreme Fiction

Jaimie Carver has recently joined the faculty of Mercy Care, an outdated understaffed care facility. The pleasant hard working young woman succeeds at her nursing duties and quickly becomes an intelligent, reliable employee. However, Jaimie is unaware of her true surroundings…an environment where evil has many faces and monsters are real. Set within a rural southern town, author Ruthann Jagge places her “new girl” in an environment where death exists more than life and the possession of an unexplained recipe book has more meaning than at first glance. These hand written collection of recipes become the backdrop for abduction, flesh tearing gore and a willpower to overcome the threat of human carnage. Written with an abhorrent pen on blood-soaked pages, this short story delivers on all cringe worthy counts. Buckle-up, The New Girls’ Patient guarantees a hyper-intensive horror roller coaster ride that has no limits and crosses all moral lines. Few things in life are guaranteed…taxes must be paid, death is inevitable and Ruthann Jagge can spin a stomach-churning bit of extreme fiction. A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.

Fantastic Debut!

Jamie works at Mercy Care as a nurse. One of her favorite patients passes away unexpectedly and leaves a little something for Jamie that ultimately ends up saving her life. This was my first time reading Jagge’s work and it was wonderful. I had to finish it in one sitting. The story was disturbing and got darker with every turn of the page. The twist thrown in was a shocker and sheds even more light on the situation. Fantastic debut! I would definitely read more from Jagge.

A Wonderful Gift

"Crees Crossing is unremarkable. The rural southern town is barely a dot on any map. It's a stop if you're desperate for fuel or a cold drink, but never a destination. The area has no notable citizens, remarkable architecture, or exciting history attracting visitors." Jaime is her name but to everyone else she is the new girl. Just a rural southern girl trying to establish herself as a nurse. The facility she works at is not a place for healing the elderly, it is where they go to live out their last days. Jamie develops a close relationship with Elizabeth, a patient who becomes very special to her. When she passes away, she leaves a very special gift for Jaime. Little does she know that this gift will change her life and put her in harms way. What ensues is horrifying and becomes a fight for survival. We are given an opening of some of Jaime's history and her small rural life. Family, friendships and care of humanity. History of Elizabeth's broken life she was forced to live which leads us into the darkness. We are than quickly smacked with a brutality that is extremely dark and visceral and the only salvation may lie within Elizabeth's mysterious gift. Darkly atmospheric with a unique supernatural twist and in the end a little light and love. Ruthann has given us a wonderful gift in her story telling! "Wash the flesh and wipe away the blood. Swallow a tear for the night's new love. Needle the heart and tie the thread. No rest for you yet. There's work for the dead."

Brace Yourself

Ruthann's debut novel is a tour de force. Its opening pages detail what it's like to spread your wings in a small town. In its tender moments, it helps us redefine what family is and the terms of friendship. What would you do for the people you love? How far would you go to protect them? At its core are horrific events that take a suprising twist. And just when you think it can't get worse, it does! It will leave you bloody, bruised and beaten but you will be satisfied and maybe look at those nearest you with new eyes. If you are on the fence about getting this book, I strong encourage you to take the ride. Strap yourself in, give Ruthann the keys - she knows what she is doing! I can not wait for her next novel.
