The only thing in the way of Kurt Reedy taking over the whole lake for his development project is Chuck Miller. He’s used every trick in the book, but the man won’t sell his family’s legacy. Running out of time, Reedy is forced to think outside the box to get results.

He doesn’t realize that once he does, there’s no turning back.

Cryptid thriller

Kurt Reedy wants to own the lake and develop it. When Chuck Miller refuses to sell his land, Kurt doesn’t just extort or threaten Chuck, he brings in a monster to decimate him. Things get gruesome fairly quickly, but don’t really scratch the surface on the history of the creature. The story doesn’t really delve too deeply into the characters either, which is too bad, as they are an interesting ensemble. If you’re looking for fast thrills, cryptids, and a rising body count, pick this quick read up!

Submersive and creepy!

Eric has produced a lot of great short stories recently, and they've all been brilliant, this one is now my favourite, so far! Short, sharp, shocking, rammed full of action and storyline, and the characters are all very real, making you feel something towards each one! Kurt wants Millers Park shut down, and it seems that Connor has just the thing to help. But, of course, it comes at a price, a very chilling and bloody price! Eve is on the way to the park, to make her husband, Jesse, pay for lying to her, but it seems he's already been made to pay for it after what she finds isn't what she expected! Bodies keep turning up in the lake, and people keep disappearing, but who, or what, is responsible….? A quick, totally submersive read, that is creepy and tense and concludes with a brilliantly, horrifying ending!

Great Read!

Chuck Miller is the owner of Miller’s Park. He is doing everything he can to keep his family’s legacy going. He refuses to sell out to Kurt Reedy, who has plans to redevelop the area. Reedy, however, doesn’t want to take no for an answer and, instead, he comes up with a plan that he hopes will force Chuck to give in. There’s Something in the Water is the perfect mix of horror and gore. I thought it was gripping from start to finish and I loved the setting. Butler did a great job making this place easy to visualize with his writing. The characters were also enjoyable. At first, I thought Reedy was the only jerk, but as the story progressed, most of the characters seemed to be crooked, which only added to everything going on. For a short story, this was impressive. Lots of detail, good characters and a body count that continues to rise as everything else falls apart or maybe everything is falling into place. If you enjoy cryptids and creepy lake settings, grab this one!

Bloody Monstrous

So this was my introduction to Eric Butler's work. A short 110 page cryptid horror that packs a punch. Kurt Reedy has something pretty messed up in mind. Mainly to screw with Miller's Park, meaning poor Chuck has a whole world of horrors coming his way. Kurt is such a scumbag and easy to hate and turns out to be a humanised monster himself. Then you have poor Chuck who everyone seems out to get and so naturally does everything to avoid losing his livelihood so it's very understandable how he ends up getting so desperate. The supporting characters in this story are equally as interesting which keeps a great pace for the story. I can't help but feel like Eve should have just sent the divorce payments rather than chase after the cheating ass of a hubby. Poor thing was the one character I really liked. Lots of blood and gore, plenty of great scenes in this and it captures your complete attention from the start to finish. The perfect monster story that will have you sucked into the point where you feel like you are there.
