The line between mental illness and horror becomes blurred for Shawna when she realizes she forgot to take her prescription one day. She is a shut-in, terrified of the outside world, and the chemical imbalance she's lived with for years requires careful medication to avoid hallucinations and worse. Her days are meticulously structured to avoid a mishap like this. With no one to turn to for help she spins out of control, haunted by someone in her bedroom mirror who wants her to cross over to his side. But what is really happening, and what is her fragmented mind inventing?

Delivering wonderful supernatural order to everyday disorder, and then some!

‘Medicated’ proved to be an absolutely fantastic short story which continued to grip me right from the outset. Labelled as a ‘shut-in’ Shawna struggles with poor mental health issues and is totally reliant on both her strong medication and an observance to a strict routine in her life in order to stay sane and cope with her individualised version of everyday reality. But after missing her medication, weird and sinister things begin to take hold of her…and not in a good way. Kate is undoubtedly a master of her craft and her deliberately disturbingly dark, but thoroughly enjoyable, horror tales always leave me wanting for more. Thank you Kate -once again you hit the nail on the head, as this is undoubtedly a work of pure genius! ‘666 calling 848, come in 848, your number is now well and truly…up!”

Take your meds

I don't want to say much more than what's in the synopsis because the reader really needs to experience this on his/her own. What I can say is that I could so relate with Shawna in the story. That the story is all too real, yet surreal at the same time. I absolutely love it. Do yourself a favor and read this fantastic short. You'll be glad you did.
