What it's quacked up to be...
I picked this one up based off of title alone and went in blind to the plot. What I was expecting wasn't what I received, it was actually a lot better. Candace thinks outside of the Zombie trope box with this one and delivers a fun, silly but gory tale that seems to have been written as a sort of tribute to the cheesy Monster movies from the black and white television days, which makes it cooler for me as I grew up watching those classics! I could picture her grinning with delight and amusement as she wrote it. You could feel her energy radiating from the pages, as always with her work. Not my favorite story that she has told, but for what it is, it was done perfectly.
Quacking Good fun
A fascinating B Movie style story. Would I watch it if this was a film? DAMN STRAIGHT! A fun read that has some level of innocence to it almost like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes meets Toy soldiers. With a hint of the usually horror zombie classic storytelling mixed in. Also the creativity and doing the story from little Kane’s point of view made this even more engrossing. I mean a ridiculous and obscene concept that gave me some rather amusing imagery in my head. I love the fact that Eric Butler and the Huskies made a cameo in this story! As always you count on Candace to bring something special to the table.
Bizarre And Brutal
A Horror Bookworm Recommendation Zombie Ducks by Candace Nola https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/ With his yellow ducks, wash cloth and bubbles, young Kane prepares for bath time. Unbeknownst to him, outside an invasion of darkness is unfolding. Bizarre news reports of inanimate objects coming to life quickly develop into madness and mayhem. Shambling dead people are walking the streets, but their kid’s toys are also joining in on the chaos. Kane must now prepare his undead army of yellow rubber ducks for battle to save his loved ones. Author Candace Nola is willing to take on the taboo subject of slaying zombie toys, no matter what the trigger warnings may be. Zombie Ducks is an odd rubbery tale of screaming, shrieking, chunks of flesh, teeth, goo and blood…and of course bouncing brutal toys that kill. This review wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t emphasize Nola’s contribution to the horror community. Her creative content is not only bizarre and brutal, but entertaining as hell. Within her world of Zombie Ducks is the one and only Eric Butler, Kittle, Totoro and Khaleesi. That alone is worth the price of admission. In other words, the reader is gonna have a squeaking good time of crimson carnage. I have to admit the subliminal messages within my brain flashed WTF more than a couple of times. I mean face it, with the barrage of bloody balls and the toy on toy action…I don’t think Pixar will be contacting Candace Nola anytime soon. I suggest you stay inside and hidden while enjoying this tasty morsel of the macabre. Zombie Ducks would be the toy in a ghoulish Happy Meal. Green Turtles, Rubber Dinosaurs and Purple Dolphins, oh my! Not since the chemical “2-4-5 Trioxen” has there been a reaction of bizarre reanimation of the dead, or rather the inanimate. I loved this dark little ditty of the dead! A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.
Bath time turns brutal in this harrowing zombie tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The innocence of a child's love for their mother paired nicely with the horror of inanimate objects coming to life to maim and kill. You're going to enjoy this a lot if you like feels with your freak-outs!
Quack quack
Are you a fan of zombies? How about ducks? What about ZOMBIE DUCKS?! Candace delights us with this fun little tale of horror. After a freak accident released pathogens into the air, humans and toys became bloodthirsty zombie creatures, causing havoc all over town. Six-year-old Zane and his mother attempt to locate a secure place to hide amid the chaos. Things look bleak, but Zane sneaks out to gather his army of rubber ducks for help. No one tells a story quite like Candace does. A quick, fun, and gory read. Zombe Ducks is a great story that will make you laugh, smile, and cringe. Candace draws you in from the first page and keeps you captivated until the very end. Definitely check it out! 4 severed fingers out of 5
