Great debut
This author's debut is a smack in the face with gruesome scenes - reader beware. Without going into too much detail about the plot, something terrible happens in a rehab clinic and revenge is sweet. This novel has everything; mystery, suspense, paranormal aspects, and very extreme in parts (hence the 'reader beware' warning). The characters were relatable, some you loved, some you hated, and some you loved to hate. The overall story is enjoyable for horror fans. Highly recommended.
One of my Top 10 of the year.
TL;DR read this novel. I read Bloodymoon and it was extreme. Nothing could have prepared me for Rehab. Rehab isn’t extreme, gory, or horror in the same way. It’s even better in my opinion. Summer has a drinking problem. Off to rehab she goes to be a better Mom and wife. We meet the characters and learn their stories and trust me when I say, the stories are heavy. They weight your soul down. Then it gets worse. A murder happens and send everything into upheaval. We learn that Summer and her son, Robbie, have an extra special connection. Somehow, after all the heaviness, suspense, sadness, and closure, there is a happy ending. But you will be tortured along with the characters to get there. This one surprised me. It takes a long, dark look at substance and alcohol abuse that is unflinching. The friendships that are established were written phenomenally. Summer and Kate are more like sisters than new friends. And the relationships continues to blossom even after… Summer and Samson, warmed my cold dead heart then froze it back over. (When you read it, you will understand.) Chris… man, fuck that guy. I hate his arrogant, stupid, machismo faking ass. I’m so glad Chomp took care of him at one time. The thing that shocked me the most was how she interweaved supernatural elements without it seeming to corny. We have all read THOSE stories but this one, it seemed more believable. Rehab has it all: blood, revenge, loyalty, friendship, who-dun-it, supernatural, the true love and connection between a Mother and child, martial relationships, substance/alcohol abuse, did I mention revenge? Absolutely pick this one up. If you don’t you are severely missing out on something special. 5/5 rehab stints
Legendary
I haven’t read a book in two years. I couldn’t put it down. It was extremely well written, suspenseful and I enjoyed it.
An author to watch!
This debut novel gripped me and wouldn't let go. The way the author gives background stories on the characters really had you caring for them (well most of them). There's murder, mystery and supernatural powers that will blow you away.
As gritty as the outback.
What an awesome story. Shit, that was dark. I feel a bit grimy now after having read it. Brutal, stark and well-written (especially the dialogue), I am in eager anticipation of Ryder’s next delightful literary work. I’m going to sit in the shower rocking slowly back and forth now.
