This isn't your typical witch story and Lollipop Dresden didn't your typical witch. I Want Candy is about a matriarchal family of witches that originated in Germany before they moved to California. Now, the family supports themselves by making candies but unbeknownst to their customers they use human collagen to do so. But I Want Candy isn't only a story about witches, but also a love story. Lollipop, the protagonist is in love with her classmate Stella, who also has some deep trauma to overcome. This was very twisty and gothic and different from the usual witch novels I've read in the past. Some scenes were very scary and some of the creepy images will stick with me for a while. Don't be fooled by the tag of being a queer romance (it is) but it's also a solid horror.
