When you fuck with bees, you get the stingers!

Nora B. Peevy's debut tome of terror, "For the Sake of Brigid" gives us a tale of conspiracy, revenge, and mythos, all wrapped in sophisticated blood and honey (no Winnie ). It all starts when Norah, a devout green witch, decides to slaughter her neighbor, Lydia's, horses for the crime of killing a beehive. Why does such a crime warrant such extreme punishment, you ask, well duh, they're the consorts of who else, but the seductive Goddess, Brigid. What follows is a series of back-and-forth rivalry between Norah and Lydia, wherein the wrath of the Goddess, the queen, the crone, is unbound. The gore is very much detailed and stylized in this book, giving it a more nuanced feel to it. That said, some of the other bits are ALSO very stylized, though perhaps a bit overly so. The details were a plenty, but I also felt that it sometimes detracted from what was going on at times. That said, I DO love the gore and torture present in this book. I also loved the addition of Brigid's tenant, Annwn, the God of war and death, who would aid in bringing punishment to those that offended the queen. In all, this is the book you want if you're looking for erotic, stylized gore that will make you squirm, not only in disgust, but perhaps in pleasure as well... Rating: / (4/5)
