A perfect prequel.
NUB is the prequel to Docking, also by Todd and which I loved. But then, that's easy for me to say as I have loved everything I have ever read by Todd. With the atmospheric scene setting and the emotion that lies within the pages of this story, it really gets you in the feels, brilliantly so. It's heart-wrenching, my eyes may or may not have watered a bit,,,,damn you Todd! NUB is a tale of guilt, retribution, abuse, love, unresolved anger, family and a lost childhood. Oh, and the King of the Twist is back! I loved this! I was left with a huge smile on my face at the end! Sy is fascinated with the carnival. He would love nothing more than to run away and join the fun. But he dare not leave his Mother alone with his abusive Father. The temptation is too much though, so he tries anyway, tries to be there and back before anyone knows that he is gone. But he gets caught, and he pays the consequences, though he's ultimately unsure of what they actually were….! Once he is a bit older, he must take on the task of ‘grunting’ alone, so his Father takes him out to teach him how it's done. A lesson that will stick with him.. Later in life, NUB is attending a meeting for addicts, he is on a personal mission. His past has stuck with him, his guilt tearing at him, causing him to mete out brutal, torturous punishments on people with similarities to his guilt ridden memories. Retribution for the father in particular is long, drawn out and painful, but still, so much less than he deserves! And Sy has help, his family always has his back!!
Wasn’t that something
Prequel to Docking, this puts a whole new spin on things. Not as brutal as some things we have seen from Love in the past, but man it’s good!
Loved this!!
Loved this prequel to Docking! Not as gruesome as I expected but still a great read!
Great read!
Oh my God. I got the chills so many times toward the end of this book. It completely blew my mind. It managed to surpass my high expectations AND be nothing at all like I expected.
