The level of nonchalantness in this book is otherworldly. There’s a whole group of people living in the rainforest that just kill and eat the DEA agents and no one bats an eye. The DEA agents come out of nowhere guns blazing, and everyone acts like it’s a normal Tuesday at the office. In this bizarre world The Snow Queen is no longer just the inspiration for Elsa, but is now a drug lord pushing out the world’s purest cocaine, all while watching a never ending stream of drug fueled air guitarist via the glass mirror shard stuck in her heart. This story contains elements of police abusing their power, women overcoming toxic relationships, cannibalism, and much more. Also, there’s a horde of monkeys that can do just about anything. The book is captivating as all hell, and the way it draws parallels to the original story in a supremely unique way is brilliant. Even as I type this I am connecting more dots between the two.
