Sister Mary by P.J. Blakey-Novis
When Cassie discovers the couple who raised her were not who they said they were, she sets off to find her birth mother. What she discovers is an unholy secret the church has tried to bury, a secret that puts the very souls of Cassie and her adopted sister in extreme danger as they search for answers.
Following the death of her parents by a drunk driver, 19 year old Cassie, discovers that she was adopted at birth. Becoming guardian to her 17 year old ‘sister’ Jessica, they decide to do some digging, to find her birth mother. Travelling to Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital, where Cassie’s mother has been for the last 20 years, they find it’s not a typical hospital but a facility run by the Church. Cassie and Jessica, soon realise that their lives are in grave danger, and that the hospital will do anything to keep their secrets buried... I was immediately drawn to this cover, of the evil looking Nun, and this is typically the kind of story I like. Being a novelette, it’s very short but has so much packed into it, creepy, eerie, and a bit of gore. 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cassie discovers the hard way that she was adopted. After her adoptive parents pass in an accident, the truth is revealed. As she’s trying to wrap her head around this news, her adopted sister Jessica seems to be fanning the flames. After many months things settled down between the girls. Jessica discovers who Cassie’s real mom is and arrangements are made to meet her. What follows is way more than either girl could have imagined. It was thrilling to follow the girls on their adventure to Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. It’s not your typical hospital. Mayfield is run by religious folks who like to keep their secrets buried. Unfortunately, Rastrith changes all of that and many of the staff at Mayfield feel his wrath. Great short story that is full of suffering, deceit, and a spattering of gory bits.
Cassie's parents have passed away, leaving her as a guardian for her sister Jessica. She then finds out she is adopted and the pair set out to find her biological Mother! They end up on quite an unexpected and creepy adventure! Complete with demons, possession and nightmarish nuns! We get to read about the possession from the possessed person's point of view too, which I found interesting! I thought this story was highly captivating, haunting, and terrifying! It was an unputdownable one sitting read! If you like short, sharp and spooky….this is for you!!
