Flying death

Always thought they were up to something. This book just proves what we knew all along. Gross, engaging, and a well spun tale. We get to watch Jake's shit life get shittier and its a lot of fun.

I Knew It

I knew those little shits were evil. This actually did end up being intense, gross and different. Loved it!

THE FLYING RATS WITH A VENDETTA!

Jake, sure is going through a shit time in his life and things are about to get a whole lot shittier! After a careless hit and run with a pigeon one night, the guilt instantly plays on his conscience. He tries to reassure himself but as soon as he arrives home, Jake is faced with another pigeon sitting right on his bonnet! At first, I thought is this just a coincidence? Or is his mind playing tricks on him? It turns out Jake is a foulmouthed drunk and a terrible husband, he is certainly not a likeable guy. There is so much more than meets the beady pigeon’s eye, to this short story of spitting feathers. We discover pigeon’s mate for life and it soon becomes apparent, even these flying rats have a vendetta against him! What I found most intriguing, was the juxtaposition between Jake’s failed marriage and the murder of another pigeon’s mate, which involves a most disturbing outcome. I loved the comedy aspect. It even invoked fond memories of the important role’s pigeons have served in our lives. From food such as the classic pigeon pie, to being post carriers during the war. I often feel pigeons have been forgotten or thought of as nothing special anymore, but clearly not by Nat Whiston. Even as a child, I have often wondered what they might be thinking. I have even mimicked their different personalities by putting on voices to impersonate them. Having sat on the ground at eye level with them and literally not giving a shit what anyone walking by thinks, whilst snapping photos; was an even greater eye opener into how much character they possess. Not just your average docile pigeons after all. So always be kind to the pigeons and remember to keep your wits about you folks, these bloody shit machines are on the loose!

What a shitty day for Jake to end his day.

My second review is nothing short of shitty. Oh, wait, that sounds really bad. … but it isn’t wrong. You know what, let’s just get into REVENGE OF THE SHIT MACHINES! By Nat Whiston. Jake is on his way home and a dumb ass pigeon is the road, refusing to let him by. Well, he is impatient and … removes the obstacle by means of vehicular bird slaughter. What you don’t realize is that pigeons mate for life and Jake has pissed off the boyfriend (or husband, look I don’t know if pigeons get married. Nat didn’t discuss that in the short). His neighbors hate him and his wife has left him because of his drinking, will he survive the Hitchcockian hell he has made for himself? This was a clever short. I caught myself laughing out loud at certain parts because Jake is a fuck hole. The pacing is fast AF so even at only 20 pages, Nat puts the reader through the ringer, just like Jake. The terror that she puts Jake through is hella impressive.
