The Trouble With Blondes (Merchant #2) by Chris Miller
With Charlie and Blanche working by his side, Sam finally tracks down the elusive blonde and uncovers a horror straight out of nightmares. Will he be able to outwit the cosmic force, or will this blonde prove to be more trouble than he can handle?
Another fun mystery/horror mash-up filled with pulpy, hard-boiled action
Merchant is a P.I. with a penchant for getting mixed up in supernatural cases that involve monsters the the like. He's an entertaining character and the action in this short story is quick and entertaining.
Blondes really ARE trouble
I love when I read something as a beta reader and then remember it almost completely 3 months later. That’s when I know I have found a winner. What short am I talking about? Well, THE TROUBLE WITH BLONDES by Chris Miller of course! Sam Merchant is back and this job is downright Lovecraftian. When Colonel Bartholomew Rollins enlists Merchant’s help to track down a stolen artifact, Sam jumps at the chance and that sweet $25 a day for expenses. To track down the artifact, Sam must find the blonde dame, Amir and his associate, and the bald Sasquatch to get it back. With Charlie, his ever money loving errand boy and secretary, Blanche, it is all hands on deck in this installment. Will Merchant get the relic back and keep his life? Classic Miller in this new series installment. His uncanny ability to drop one liners that make the reader giggle while keeping us in the story is one of my favorite things about Merchant. My favorite line in this one is, “I’m startin’ to get the picture, but how about you start using some paint for me here…” Merchant is no nonsense and all about that money, no matter the cost of his own life. And if you want blood and guts, you get all of that too! 100% recommend this one, I mean, it’s Chris. So duh.
