Who Dies First by Douglas Ford

Douglas Ford

Only left in stock

A road-trip takes a dark detour when Steve and Nancy decide to visit distant family, unwittingly opening a trove of family secrets that threaten to change everything they know about themselves and each other. From the author of The Trick and The Infection Party comesa neo-Southern Gothic tale that follows a surreal path to sinister museums in thrift stores, an ex-wrestler with an unspeakable appetite, time-bending government experiments, and finally a revelation about what’s hidden upstairs.

Keep the location services turned on so you’re not the one who dies first.

“Ford deftly reminds us that the ties that bind in the Deep South are sometimes best left alone and undone. A timely tale of family secrets that unsettles and unnerves before it ends in a sharp, wicked jab to the gut.”

--Kenzie Jennings, author of
Reception and Always Listen to Her Hurt

“The tension building is stellar!”

--Ruth Anna Evans, author of
Do Not Go in That House

Terrible Things Can Happen To Good People

A Horror Bookworm Recommendation Who Dies First by Douglas Ford https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/ Steve and Nancy have planned a road trip to attend a convention in Pittsburgh. To make the adventure worth while they decide to stop and visit Steve’s aunt, uncle and cousin. Not seeing the family for many years, Steve & Nancy make their way to their fancy island resort. A severe storm approaches, demanding the couple stay overnight, which in turn reveals a gruesome family secret. Douglas Ford has once again blessed us with his newest creation, Who Dies First. Mr. Ford has outdone himself with some of the most bizarre characters I have ever read. It’s not so much the sinister plot aspect, it’s the realistic portrayal of unsettling situation after unsettling situation. Ford’s character development and subtle yet disturbing dialogue gives this horror story a unique feel. It’s like walking through a cemetery and seeing a mound of freshly turned soil…very eerie. Ford decorates his novel with a menacing decor. Having a minimalistic cast and location, the atmosphere of dread is heavy and uses insidious suggestions to unnerve his readers. Jealousy, despair, emptiness and fear, these authentic and believable dark emotions induce a Hitchcock vibe. Who Dies First generates suspense through human behavior, which in turn makes for an unforgettable experience. Douglas Ford said it best…”Always count the traffic lights and place cautious trust in your G.P.S.” Terrible things can happen to good people when they least expect it. A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.
