Your English Is Good

Horror Bookworm Reviews https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/ A woman employs an outlaw biker as a bodyguard for protection regarding her deviant talents. Her clients are a particular kind of customer, ones who have distinctive kinky wants and needs. This particular profession of high dollar escort at second glance, isn’t what it seems. This short story written by Colt Skinner, replaces reality with no holds barred taboos and enough forbidden desires that safe words must be used. Pleasantly pieced together, Skinner successfully creates an amazing ambience of horrific voyeurism for the reader. His experimental fictional ecstasy is pure genius and should only be read behind closed doors, safely hidden away from all others. The line between pleasure and pain, ecstasy and suffering, are cleverly blurred with authenticity and fantasy. When it comes to sexual pleasures, what is acceptable and what is not? What will be your Safe Word?

Colt Skinner sets the bar VERY high as a fresh voice in the genre!

While reading this short but memorable story for the first time, I had no idea "where" Colt was taking me, but I sure wanted to go along for the ride! No one would guess this author doesn't have a long and impressive collection of published work to his credit, his writing is seamless and precise, and his ability to shock when one least expects it, is the best type of horror. I won't go into the details of the story, the description above sets the stage. It's a fast read, but make no mistake, it has a huge payoff! Colt's descriptions of his characters and the settings are thoughtful. The pull of the house where "Grace" hosts her exclusive clientele, and the situations Eddy, her bodyguard deals with, read like an episode of "Masters of Horror," and this author is on his way to becoming one! You won't need a "safe word," just dive full-frontal into this gem, and be sure to hang on tight!

The First Glimpse of a New Voice In Horror

Colt Skinner's debut, brought to us by the unholy alliance of D&T Publishing and Godless, is one hell of a ride. Your English Is Good introduces us to Eddy, a biker hired as protection for Grace as she entertains clients for the night. On the surface, Grace appears to be a prostitute or dominatrix, but appearances can be deceiving. We learn a great deal about Eddy--both his past and aspirations within the Dead Mariachis Motorcycle Club--as he finds himself drifting through reminiscence and reflection in the strangest way upon first meeting Grace. She seems to have a peculiar effect on him, but it's nothing compared to the influence she has on her clients, but that's what they're paying her for. While short, this story succeeds in blending elements of cosmic and body horror with a meditation on morality and sacrifice. In the end, we're forced to consider that it may be that the most inhuman among us who display the most compassion and decency and that it's all-too-human to exhibit a total lack of humanity. Skinner leaves the reader wanting, hoping there's more to the story of Grace and Eddy than what we've been exposed to. More than that, we're left hoping there's a lot more on the horizon from this emerging author because his English is good, but his writing is excellent.

Surprise!

We follow Eddy who is hired to be a bodyguard for Grace. She has asked him to be around in case things get out of hand with her clients. He knows the safe word and the whistle if he is needed otherwise Grace told him to stay tucked away. Eddy is in for a surprise! I enjoyed this one. Eddy was a likeable character. He often reflected on some of his own issues that have been triggered by his feelings for Grace and the way her clients would treat her. When Eddy’s services are needed, he cannot believe what he is seeing! A very twisted ending that surprised me. For a short this doesn't disappoint! You get a great feel for the characters and even the clients that come to visit Grace. Skinner does a wonderful job with the atmosphere of the story. Very descriptive.
