The Devil You Know (Emerge #22) by Andromeda Grace
Anya has built a quiet life for herself, trusted as the village healer as long as she keeps her magic hidden. All of that changes when a strange traveler arrives at her doorstep. The man looks human, but Anya senses an old and powerful magic within him. Intrigued, she allows Owen inside. Despite her suspicions, she finds him to be a kindred spirit. They begin a romance, both finding comfort in one another. Their peace is broken when a family comes to Anya in crisis. Their child has been cursed, and is transforming into a monster. Desperate to save the boy, Anya asks Owen for help. He can grant her the power to break the spell, but it requires blood and forbidden rites. Knowing that she can’t break the curse alone, Anya faces a choice with deadly consequences.

Cozy yet tragic
I enjoyed this story. It starts off cozy, but that's not all that's in store. The descriptions were apt, and I could envision exactly the area. I would recommend this.
Fantastic Read!
The Devil You Know is fantastic! I loved the atmosphere Grace created. I could feel the cold air, the coziness of the cottage and all the emotions that Anya felt. Definitely at the top of my list for witch stories. Anya was a great character. I immediately took to her and enjoyed hearing how she helped her village and watched over it despite how some felt about her. When she found unexpected love, I couldn’t wait to see where things went and then Grace delivered a shocking twist. I really enjoyed everything about this one. For her first publication, this was impressive, and I’d definitely read more of her work. If you love witches, black magic, and small town horror, add this one to your list.
A very engaging, well-written and easy read!
For its length, it does such a good job at immersing the reader in the life of Anya as she has a fateful encounter with the mysterious traveler Owen. The two characters quickly develop a passionate and intriguing relationship, and the villagers' interactions with them brings the world to life throughout this romantic yet haunting story. I loved it!
A fun & evocative read!
This story draws you in with its classic fairy tale format, but there's more going on than just happily ever after. It has a sexy, spooky plot line with characters and visual story-telling that will stick with you long after you finish reading. I loved the exploration of identity and the tension of being an outsider while having that be what makes you powerful. If you're looking for a page-turner, fully dimensional characters, and subversive undercurrents/deeper themes, pick up a copy!
