Something lurks deep in the Choco rainforest of Colombia. It is part myth and part real, both spirit and flesh. Ancient and hungry, it has awakened and is on the hunt.

Daniel and his team of researchers are delving deep into the rainforest in search of golden poison arrow frogs, their research taking them far from civilization and the safety it provides.

Things go well at first, but soon they must deal with a threat both older than humanity, as well as one that is all too human.

Lost in the forest, time is running out for all of them as they must face the jungle itself, and all it contains, to survive.

I loved everything about this tale! If any of the below checks your boxes, you will too.

Although this lush and lusty creature feature takes place in the Chocó-Darién rainforest in Colombia and references the Indigenous Emberá people, the author did a great job taking me back to the days of my fieldwork in the highlands of Guatemala, living and working alongside the Maya. I could smell the ozone in the air, Marxist guerrillas … check, and the moral of the story is: follow the rules. Rule number one: ALWAYS heed the traditional environmental knowledge and lore of the local Indigenous peoples. Rule number two: NEVER whistle at night. I loved everything about this tale! If any of the above checks your boxes, you will too.
