When her best friend insists they stay up to celebrate, they discover a hidden board game and accidentally free Magriol, a sadistic exile from Hell whose practices disgust even the Devil. He offers to spare them if they can decipher a series of clues hidden throughout the city, thrusting them into a gore-splattered game of perversity in which their deepest insecurities are fodder for his amusement.Anna may survive the carnage...but who will she be once the ocean of blood clears?

An Absolutely Gory Thrill

A loss of virginity, On the Eve of her 18th, Becomes the catalyst of cataclysm Of the as-of-now-entrapped, Infernal Magriol. Supernatural secrets and evil contained, But how long will this containment remain? Anna and her friends, Soon cause its end. Infernal secrets and demonic sadists, Displays of Disfigurement, Dismemberment, Mutilation and transformation, Supernatural destruction, Are Magriol’s favorite option. The creative evil is now unleashed again. Blood and bone. Organs and flesh. Muscle and fat, And other gory mess. Every piece and part, Like the head or the heart, All tools of horror in his torturous art. Wonderful, brutal descriptions, To leave you with the grim imagery, With twists to leave you scared and stressed, Unable to guess what’s next. [Triggers] Themes of various traumas, Loaded with bullies and drama (poor Tina), As well as sexual ab*se, Not to mention the death, The implied and depicted inc3st too, Alongside what’s aforementioned, at the start, Be aware of this, viewer, That it is not for the fainter of heart. This is Ash Crowlin’s Birthday Girl I am new to this more extreme end of the genre, or at least haven’t been around it in quite some time, but let it be known that this is currently the most gory literature that I’ve ever read. His detail in his writing masterfully presents every brutal murder quite vividly. The un-likability of some of the characters (which was largely from how they treated each other) weirdly grew on me over time as it ended up making me even more invested for how Magroil may end up treating them. It also helped the ending be more satisfying for me, personally, though it still does leave you wanting more. I really enjoy how much the world is expanded upon from beginning to end, especially towards the middle where the book reaches into some bangsian fantasy territory (a subgenre of fantasy that takes place in the afterlife) which I very much am in love with. ‘If the characters aren’t a sell for you, I still definitely recommend sticking around for its world-building elements. This novella definitely grew on me further as a result, and packs quite the amount of content despite the status of novella, reaching about 165 pages in PDF file size or 340 pages on iBook formatting. From the story to the world-building to more supernatural gore than you can probably imagine for the price, I definitely recommend this title currently banned from Amazon at the time of this review, so I’ve been told.

Something New

This book was super fun. There is some stuff on here, I could never even dream up. Yet the essence of “teenage girl” in the characters is spot on. Ash has some sort of demented mind, and I love it.
