Obsessed by Artur Kouri
A Ukrainian horror writer from Poltava returns with a new collection. "Obsessed" [Four Nightmares], as the title suggests, is about obsession. Obsession not only with sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll (which certainly have their place here), but primarily with black magic. Black magic and flirtations with the devil are the leading themes of the stories.
The Witch of Toluca Lake – the protagonist thought his life was a living nightmare until he found himself in a ghost town. This is a crossover between the classic surreal survival horror game series Silent Hill (from Konami) and the first creepy film adaptation of the iconic franchise. There are several discrepancies between the games and the film, and I tried to combine them.
Prematurely Born – no matter how deep you hide your dark crimes, once they surface, they'll bury you. Fans of the TV series "Sons of Anarchy" might sense the influence of Kurt Sutter in this story, and they'd be right. Only my pack of bikers (complete crazy bastards) won't be facing IRA kings, but a bloodthirsty, grotesque creature.
When Thunder Rumbles in Roll – you can't worship Satan, then don a priest's robe and think your dark past is over. Once you become the devil's servant, you remain at his mercy. Only a homeless boy, a blind girl, and a disabled old man don't yet know this. I've been mulling over the idea for this story for several months.
Silver Thread – "…dark forces only like sacrifices, but they hate appeals for jokes or personal gain. Those who believe that black magic can bring them wealth and power are fools. In most cases, it works in the exact opposite way. Demons don't like to follow orders, but they happily tear apart those who disturb them".
