Krae by Tim Eagle
Krae's nose always knows. She has hyperosmia; a heightened olfactory sense which tells her something is rising in Stevats--and it stinks. Horrors from the past seek to resurface, heralded by the terrible odor, and the screeching of crows.
Death swirls all around Krae, bringing chaos and confusion. Her marriage, her job, and her very being, all seem at risk by something ethereal lingering in the air, something just below the range of even her perception.
But is the stench haunting Krae's house a threat, or a warning?
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and this is now the 3rd book of Tim's that I have read and enjoyed. The first 2 books, Vasectamus 1&2, were more on the extreme horror side, and this one, I found, was more of a dark, supernatural horror. It was creepy, gory, and had me quickly turning the pages in anticipation of what was to come. I liked how the main character, Krae, uses her hyperosmia to work out what's going on around her, and when people are lying or not. It's an interesting take and not one I've come across before! I very much look forward to more from Tim! 4/5 creepy crows(no crow emoji so using the eagle in honor of Tim! ) from me
Dark, disturbing and enthralling. I have never read anything quite like it. I got immersed in the story and found myself wondering what it would be like to have this condition.
