WOW
This is the first thing I have read by Bowyer, and as of right now, I have to read all of his stuff. This short story/novella was amazing. This 18-page story packed the punch of a full-length novel. This tight and perfectly paced story is definitely not to be missed. Check it out, you will not be disappointed. Do it! 5 severed fingers out of 5
A bloody good read.
Myla has had a rotten year. Her daughter passed away and her husband left her… for her sister, Marlow. When a co-worker set her up with a bachelor named Archibald, her life gets a lot more… noisy and dramatic. Can Myla make the noise stop before it’s too late? My first by Bowyer but certainly not my last. SCARLETT is such an inventive premise and I am obsessed with Bowyer’s writing now. A HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5/5.
A satisfying quick read.
Brian Bowyer's writing style is addictive: simple, intelligent, honest, seemingly effortless, and quirky. His distinctive way with words shows up equally in short and long form. His 'Scarlett' is short, dark, densely packed, original, and wild: a haunted painting made by a serial killer manipulates its viewers so that the ghost inhabiting it gets the chance to stop her killer; one of the viewers responds, and ... we're set! This is a great story with memorable characters. A satisfying quick read.
