One Last Breath by Tim Eagle
As society starts to unravel, Sloan's world begins the day he meets Cara. They marry despite increasing government restrictions. As everyone else stares at their phones, they see only each other.
Sloan and Cara's love grows, even as the last pillar collapses. Law is replaced by arbitrary rules. Mechanical brutality supplants justice.
Can their love withstand this new world, or will they succumb to the fallacious order?
One Last Breath is a story of love, loss, and terror...
Wow!! This is a powerful short story, about Cara and Sloan, who are completely in love with each other. They also share a love of cigarettes. Unfortunately for them, they live in a dystopian future, where ‘Jacks’ (robotic like soldiers), control and ‘shoot to kill’ anyone doing something they shouldn’t. This was a powerfully, intense love story which warms your heart but at the same time, chills you to the bone. I must admit, it tugged at my heartstrings, and I had to “wipe the dust from my eye” a few times This took 30 - 40 minutes to read, but it packs a punch from beginning to end...LOVE THAT ENDING!! I highly recommend this brilliant, unique novella!! An easy 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
1984 With Spiders
Definitely not the beginning you expect. A loving married couple are living their best life but then things seem to take a turn for the worse. The “jacks” are taking away everyone’s fun including cigarettes and if you’re caught the consequences are dire. The couple find an interesting way around the rules, for a while. There is a real 1984 vibe in this short but devastating piece.
