Loved this!!
This brought me to tears. A zompoc story but the story is so much more than that. Everything I've read from Wilburn has been amazing and this is no exception. I didn't know him, but I knew the fight he was fighting and this story is 100% him.
A very moving story
Failure is an intense dystopian read that is centered around Roman and his family. Roman has a health condition and without treatment he knows he wonβt be around long. So, he is doing all that he can now to make sure that his family is safe. For such a short read, I was not expecting this book to have such an impact on me. Wilburn immediately drops the reader into some chaos, and it only gets worse from there as we follow Roman and his family through a very bleak world full of the undead. As the reader, you experience the dread, the urgency to get moving, and just how pressing time is for Roman. We see Roman struggling, not only with his condition but also himself. He carries a lot of self-doubt and questions himself quite a bit. The caring nature of his character is so clear in this book. Roman is my favorite character. He is brave, has a lot of heart and, despite his issues, he just keeps fighting. For me, this is a very moving story. It pulls you in immediately and holds tight until the very end where the gut punch comes in. Excellent execution, especially for a short story. Wilburn was a treasure to the indie community, and I am glad that we can still share and read his wonderful work. Donβt miss out on this one.
Kidneys and Zombies
Great short about life and zombies. This little tale packs a lot of heart!
Not Your Average Zombie Story
Iβm not a huge zombie fan but this story has the right twists and turns to set it out above other zombie stories. I loved it.
Prepare to Run with Jay
This was so good, a great new take on a zombie apocalypse story. As we follow Roman and his family for their fight for survival. Whilst also bringing a subject to the forefront that even I never considered. Like how would a transplant patient survive? When everything such as supplies and medications are being rationed. I mean, in the middle of a Zombie attack it's like you're going to find a doctor easily. This makes the book a thought-provoking read that makes you really connect with the characters. I mean hard enough looking after two people, but your wife, kid and grandchildren AND your ill it's hard to imagine. The bond that Kelly and Roman share is beautifully balanced and shows how it affects loved ones, when you live with a life-threatening condition. That along with the stress of protecting his family from getting eaten, before his body completely gives out. This story is so raw, so special in its own right and it made me cry when I finished it. The fear and desperation in this piece clings to your chest. One reason being that we will never come across anything like this again, we have lost a truly talented and skilled author from the community.
