Never be alone again.

In a dying railroad town, a conjoined twin wallows in Purgatory for the murder of his brother. A disgraced surgeon goes to desperate ends to reconnect with his lost love.

When redemption comes with a dash of black magic, the two enter a world of talking corpses, flesh-eating hogs, rude mimes, and ritualistic violence.

"A Southern Gothic folk tale steeped in black humor and the occult. If you enjoyed Geek LoveNightmare Alley, or the works of Joe R. Lansdale, you'll love the unique brand of literary madness Jo Quenell has conjured with The Mud Ballad." - Brendan Vidito, author of the Wonderland Award winning Nightmares in Ecstasy

I recommend this product

A Gothic Terry Pratchett

On one hand we got Dawes, who's supposed to not be a doctor anymore and on the other side there's Johnathan, Jon, who killed his conjoined twins to be free from it but now wants to be reunited with his victims. All of this, ALL OF THIS, takes place in the twon of Spudsville which is even more fucked-up that the main characters. What with its boar fights and military school. Think of a very Gothic Terry Pratchett, or a very violent Tim Burton. Jo Quenell writes with ease scenes and sequances and characters that should appear absurd but who are so grounded in fatalities, you never doubt them for one second. The Mud Ballad, despite its violence, it's a genuine cool ride, akin to a rollercoaster and I'm not lying when I say it made me laugh out loud on a few passages. Def worth reading.
