When vampire gunslinger, Creed Goodnight, takes a bloody bite out of the demon infestation in Whiskey Lick, Texas, he is offered an ironic, but lucrative proposition by Archbishop Declan McQuade of the Catholic diocese in El Paso. Flanked by a nun and a half-breed angel, Creed braves a new breed of fearsome haunting the Mexican wastelands in a furious race to seal the Gates Of Hell and save the village of Almas Perdidas before time runs out.

One Hell of a Read

I was royally entertained with Sunni Ellison’s One Hell of a Night in Mexico. For those of you familiar with the lyrical riffs Ellison posts on her Facebook page, you know she is a devilish wordslinger. The characters—from vampire gun-for-hire Creed Goodnight to Reverend Jim to tough-as-nails Sister Anjelica and all the multiple good guys and baddies—are colorfully developed without slowing the rapid-fire pace of the narrative. And as much fun as the narrative is, the prose is a joy. “No one has to advertise a fire, just strike a blaze and they all come running.” “A stilted, electric rush of wind permeated the air, drawing out a cold sweat across his skin like frogs after a hard rain.” “Even staring down the damn barrel of eternity, women would forever confound him.” As I said, Sunni Ellis is a wordslinger. Read and enjoy.
